Highlights of Intersections recent media appearances
Monday, February 22: Journalist Betty Klinck authored BelieveOutLoud calls for Christians to voice support for gays, lesbians in her recent USA Today Faith & Reason article. Klinck asks readers if they think gays and lesbians will truly be embraced by the Christian community as a result of Intersections’ recently launched “Believe Out Loud” campaign.
Friday, March 5: Intersections’ C. Eduardo Vargas authored The Uncertain Future of Iraqi Refugees, published in Politics Cubed. Vargas outlined the obstacles faced by Iraqi refugees, including limited access to healthcare, employment, legal protection, education and local integration. He suggests how the United States can have a more prominent leadership role in addressing the crisis while strengthening the capacity of civil society.
Saturday, March 6, and Sunday, March 7: Journalist Charity Tooze used interview excerpts from Intersections’ C. Eduardo Vargas in Security is the dominant issue for displaced Iraqis, published in the Huffington Post, and Following the election from so far away, published in the CNN Anderson360 news blog. Both articles highlighted the security issues and challenges Iraq faced in its second election since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003. Tooze and Vargas were participants in a Feb. 4 panel discussion at Intersections that explored the ongoing Iraqi refugee crisis.
Wednesday, March 10: The radio talk show Native America Calling featured Intersections Director Robert Chase. The weekday live broadcast streams on the NPR Satellite System to more than 40 radio stations across the United States, and live on the internet. As the oldest corporation in North America, dating back to 1628, The Collegiate Church of New York apologized to the Lenape and Delaware people last fall as a first step in forging a new relationship. The program explored the historical and current obstacles that must be overcome, and how churches across the nation have treated native people differently.
Monday, March 22: Michael Enright, a student at the School of Visual Arts and volunteer for Intersections’ Veteran-Civilian Dialogue program, was featured in The Journal News. Enright is working on his thesis film project about war’s effects on the soul, which includes excerpts of the Veteran-Civilian Dialogue. Enright’s film follows his former classmate Cpl. Alex Eckner, and Eckner’s army unit through basic training in Hawai’i, deployment to Afghanistan and their return home.
Tuesday, April 13: Intersections Director Robert Chase authored Outloud and Silent, published in the Reflection Forum at Be@ts2.0. The post explores The National Day of Silence and offers a Christian perspective on Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) equality in society.
Thursday, April 29th: Project Manager Sara Reef, a specialist in intercultural relations, authored Time for Arab-Israeli partnership on Iran. The article was published in Ynetnews—an online news source operated by Israel's leading daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth. Reef suggests that to promote peace the U.S. should focus on building an Arab-Israeli partnership.
