Working with American Muslims

About The Program

One of the initiatives Intersections has embarked on is to transform the stereotypes that exist in today’s society about Muslims. ChangeTheStory.net was launched in 2008 to provide educators, religious leaders and concerned individuals with the tools they need to combat existing misconceptions towards this community and to help facilitate understanding.

ChangeTheStory.net is a premiere online resource created to supplement a major bipartisan report, “Changing Course: A New Direction for U.S. Relations with the Muslim World". The website provides resources that help transform the narrative we carry of each other, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

ChangeTheStory.net was developed under the leadership of a multi-faith team of advisors and in cooperation with staff leadership of the U.S. Muslim Engagement Project, from Search for Common Ground and the Consensus Building Institute. These organizations convened a distinguished group of American leaders, including former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, to form a clear and strong consensus on a strategy to enhance U.S. security and improve U.S. relations with the Muslim world. Their findings emphasized promoting mutual respect and understanding between the United States and Muslim majority countries.

ChangeTheStory features tools for educators, religious leaders and concerned individuals. On the website, you can Meet Your Neighbor and hear Muslim Americans talk about their lives. You can Change The Story by learning more about Islam in all its diversity. And you can Change The World with easy-to-use, built-in advocacy tools.

This interactive website offers multiple entry points into the report, and moves its recommendations into action. Visit ChangeTheStory.net to learn more and join us on facebook! If you would like more information, please contact us at info@ChangeTheStory.net.
