On Tuesday, March 19th, approximately 60 people attended a special film screening of The Test of Freedom, a film created in partnership with Everest Production Corp. and the Muslim Consultative Network. The film features US Muslims who are living out their faith and confronting discrimination in ways that uplift those around them. The screening was followed by a panel discussion with Director Khaliff Watkins, Producer A.A Yasiin, and Center for Interfaith Affairs at the Peace Islands Executive Director Ibrahim Sayar. It was moderated by the Muslim Consultative Network’s Executive Director Ashleigh Zimmerman.
Intersections Executive Director, Rev. Robert Chase, was highlighted in the film along with the former Executive Director of the Muslim Women’s Institute for Research and Development (MWIRD), Nurah Amatullah. Intersections’ parent company, the Collegiate Church Corporation, gave a grant to MWIRD for their halal food pantry – the only halal food pantry in New York City. The Test of Freedom captured this story as an example of interfaith cooperation in New York City.
During the discussion, one participant commented, “Intersections is a wonderful place that is always open to the Muslim community.”
